Make Money How To Kiss

Countless People Are Worried About Approaching Retirement Age, But If You Make Time To Think About Your Plans Before It Happens Getting Used To It Can Be Far Less Difficult Than You Might Expect

As folk get close to retirement there are many who totally embrace the concept of having many days to while away doing just what they want when they choose to, whilst others will fret about being bored or being lonely. There are many options of course, and if you want to keep busy and interested in life beyond work there is no reason to fret.

As most people in the UK will be aware, the compulsory retirement age is to be discontinued during 2011 and so the simple choice for keeping active is to look for a part time job, which will not only keep you occupied but earn you a little extra income as well. An existing employer or someone who associated with you because of your job could be extremely happy to use a capable pair of hands, even if it is only on a casual basis to cover holidays and sickness.

However, such a choice still leaves you beholden to someone else, so as an alternative you could opt for voluntary work. A quick search on the internet will demonstrate that the opportunities for getting involved in such work are merely limited by health constraints and any list of health & Safety or insurance restrictions which may have been dictated by the organisation you wish volunteer for. But usually, the options available should be very similar to the list of positions for anybody of any age.

However, there are some people approaching retirement who are also the main carers for infirm parents or other relatives. This can make the situation more difficult, but if there is already paid help contributing to the care process whilst you are at work, don’t just cancel it straight away when you retire. You may believe that you can handle the situation, but if you need time for yourself or for joining in specific events elsewhere other than the house, it quickly becomes a chore to always need to ask someone else to step in if you have to go out, and this can lead to resentment and a breakdown in the relationship – not an pleasant situation when you are living in the same property.

Of course, if you are the kind of person who has always been involved in interests and activities out of the house in your own time, then the likelihood is that you will carry on with them, subject to any age related health issues which may begin to make physical activity more difficult. But if the joints are starting to creak and the vision isn’t what it used to be, there are lots of other things you can get do as an alternative. And of course, once you reach a ‘certain’ age, there are opportunities to ask for replacement joints so that arthritis is no longer a problem, and conventional surgery for cataracts plus, more importantly, treatment for other vision problems which can be solved with Laser eye surgery are offered on the NHS if they are thought to be essential – a massive result when Laser eye treatments are generally expensive procedures carried out in private clinics.

Some people may just choose not going out much but gardening, reading, knitting, sewing, spending time with the family, and if that is what you aspire to then that is what you should do. Of course, things including gardening may also be affected by aching limbs and close work like sewing and reading can get to be a chore if your eyesight is deteriorating, so once again, speak to your doctor and get yourself referred to the appropriate specialists to see if you are eligible for surgical help to increase your mobility and the applicable conventional surgery or Laser eye treatment to enhance your sight.

The most essential thing of all is to find a routine that suits you and to make sure that you keep active and happy. If you discover that you spend too many days not even thinking about getting dressed or doing nothing other than watching daytime television, it’s time to take a deep breath and ask if that’s actually all that you ask for from your life. It’s likely that hardly anyone really wants to keep to that kind of existence, so chat to friends, neighbours and family and look for something that you would like to do. And if you are still on the waiting list for your hip replacement so that you can go back to gardening, how about growing a window box or house plants and herbs? Or while you’re on the list for that Laser eye surgery, don’t sit and gaze at a blurry television picture, but listen instead – music, talking books, radio quiz shows, news and politics – they can all broaden the mind and help keep it active, which really can’t be a bad thing.
