Turn to food to Elevate Your Mood

In general, people have been conditioned to think that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and have to be avoided. But if your comfort food is candy or junk food this is true. Other times, comfort foods can be perfectly healthy and good for us to eat. There are several foods that, when you eat them, could better your mood. If you are feeling a little bit down and in need of an emotional pick me up, try a number of these.

Eggs, believe it or not, are fantastic for helping you combat depression. You must see to it, however, that what you make includes the yolk. When you would like to cheer yourself up, the yolk is the most important part of the egg. Eggs, the yolks particularly, are rich in B vitamins. These B vitamins are fantastic for helping to elevate your mood. This is because they increase the function of your brain‘s neural transmitters (the parts of the brain that dictate how you feel). Try consuming a couple of eggs to feel better!

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be elevated by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because these foods are rich in magnesium, which helps to raise your production of serotonin. Serotonin is a feel-good substance that tells the brain how to feel at any given time. The more serotonin you have, the better you are going to feel. Nuts, on top of elevating your mood, can be a superb source of protein.

If you would like to beat depression, try eating some cold water fish. Cold water fish such as tuna, trout and wild salmon are high in DHA and omega-3 fatty acids. DHA and omega-3s are two things that truly help the grey matter in your brain work a lot better. It’s the truth: eating tuna fish sandwiches can truly help you fight your depression.

It’s not difficult to fight your bad mood when you are eating grains. Quinoa, barley, teff, millet, etc are all wonderful for helping you feel happier. These grains can help you feel full for longer also, which can help your mood too. It’s easy to feel depressed when you feel hungry! These grains can improve your mood as it’s not at all difficult for your body to digest them. They are easier to digest than other foods which helps raise your blood sugar levels and that, in turn, improves your mood.

Your mood could truly be helped by green tea. You just knew green tea had to be mentioned, right? Green tea is rich in a particular amino acid known as L-theanine. Studies have discovered that this amino acid basically induces brain waves. This will better your brain’s concentration while also relaxing the rest of your body. You knew green tea could help you be so much healthier. Now you know that applies to your mood as well!
